Rain and Prayers

I know that many of you up north are getting ice and snow, but we're just getting a cold rain down here. I'll be at home shortly, unpacking more boxes and perhaps enjoying some hot cocoa this evening.

Things are heating up Asia. Sri Lanka's war between the goverment and the rebels is continuing -- keeping food, supplies, and medicine from group of people living in areas under fire. Violence has also fired back up in Assam, India. You can catch a news article here or find out how to pray at this gfa.org article.

Arctic...fizzle?

In Kansas, the advent of a strong thunderstorm system causes radio station KFDI and others to begin "continuous storm coverage" until the system is past. They have people out with mobile units in different areas, telling about the size of the hail and the severity of the wind. Dallas does nothing like that. Well, at least not with thunderstorms. Ice is a different story.

We've been in an ice storm warning from Saturday morning until Sunday evening. They've been predicting up to an inch of ice and the news stations have been interrupting even the football games to provide ongoing coverage of where the storm is now and how slick the roads are. They've titled this storm system "The Arctic Blast." This morning's coverage included a weather forecast (revised to say up to one-half inch of ice) and visiting various mobile units posted at major freeway intersections. However, without the freezing temperatures, the freezing rain wasn't freezing. The mobile reports were hard put to find something to report, resorting to "You can see the water at my feet--it isn't frozen yet. A few raindrops just landed in it." and "You can see the vehicles behind me on the freeway -- they're not having any problems. There's a truck just now exiting on the ramp from I-35 and you can see it's driving slowly. Now, over to Marsha at the high five interchange."

My roommate remarked: "Dallas - the only place where it makes the news when someone is driving slowly on the freeway."

And me? I've been busy packing... and taking time to seek the Lord in prayer. Often I know what needs to change in my life, but I never get around to asking the Lord to help me in making those changes. I just keep trying to change them in my own strength.

I praise God for your prayers!

PTL for the stove!

Yeah!  Thanks for praying!  The inside faucets are fixed, I have a brand new (used) stove that seems to work, and Joe (the fix-it guy) is working on fixing the outside faucets.  And my cold is getting better!

Internship countdown...

The new group of Road to Reality interns start arriving in just over two weeks.
Prayer Points:
  • Pray for the repairs needed for the rental house to get done quickly and correctly
  • Pray for my box-packing and moving details
  • Pray for my spiritual/emotional preparation for this coming time
  • Pray for the three interns as they prepare to come -- each of them are raising their financial support right now for this coming year.
  • Pray for God to prepare our hearts (theirs and mine) for what He wants us to learn this year.
  • Pray for airline tickets and traveling safety as they come about the 27th of this month.

Tonight's activity for me? Trying to get a hold of one of the interns about a church meeting and packing my sheets/towels/books.

Married and Moving

Not me, my sister! Despite the fact that none of their blogs have been updated, my sister and her fiance did indeed get married last Saturday. The wedding ceremony was focused around the Lord and went off smoothly and beautifully. The Blue Ridge Thunder Cloggers performed at the reception aftwards and the bride and groom (still in wedding atire) joined in the clogging performance.

And the moving part -- I'm moving mid-January to live with three new interns arriving for our Road to Reality internship program. I was joking while I was in VA about taking up house cleaning as a new hobby. The new rental house was a mess from the previous tenants and would take many hours of cleanup when I got back.

I stopped by the house last night after work to see if requested repairs had gotten done. As I walked through the kitchen, I noticed a whiteboard on the fridge with a list...

Wipe walls - Done
Clean fans - Done
Wash baseboards - Done
Vaccuum floors - Done
Clean out kitchen cabinents - Done

on and on and on and on..... all done! My wonderful roommate and a team of families and friends from GFA had descended on the house over New Year's weekend and cleaned it all up for me! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!
